The History
The history of Thanksgiving can be traced back centuries to the early years in the Americas. According to Wikipedia, Thanksgiving is a international holiday, although it is celebrated on different dates. One thing is certainly an integrated component, thankfulness for blessings.
Starting originally as a harvest celebration, Thanksgiving has made its way into many American lives over the years. During the modern times, Thanksgiving is a time of gathering with family and friends.
2020: An Unexpected Invitation
In a year where the major majority of headlines include concerns about COVID-19, new restrictions on gatherings, and the necessity of social distancing, it can be hard to be thankful this Thanksgiving season.
This year has certainly been quite tough. Normal has been disrupted for many. Everyone has experienced a loss of some degree this year. Hopes and dreams for the year have been modified for many as we each strive to cope with the uncertainty that characterizes 2020.
Even through all of this , we can and will get through these times. This year can be viewed as an invitation to detach from the things of the world and focus on what really matters most. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to embrace and accept this invitation to Count Our Blessings.
Simple Blessings
At COR Engineering, we decided to put our heads together and try to lay out some things that almost anyone can be grateful for. Here are some things to be grateful for:
- Air to breath
- A new day
- Sunrises, sunsets, and sunny days
- Brisk Breezes
- The USA, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave
- Laughter with family and friends
- Smiles
- Generosity of Strangers
- Warmth on a cold day
- The sound of a good song
- Essential workers
- Truckers and transportation workers
- Technology to light the darkness and connect us over the miles
Although there is most certainly more to be thankful for, these are some of the most universal.
This Thanksgiving
This Thanksgiving will be different for most of us. This year rather than focusing on what we don’t have or can’t do, we invite you to join us in focusing on what we can do and what we do have. Join with us and invite those dear to you to celebrate the simple blessings in life and count the many blessings in our lives.
The more we focus on the good the more we are capable of seeing the good in our lives and in others. Let us feast together on the goodness that surrounds us daily, in the simple, small things in life that bring value and meaning as well as the big things that easy to see.
Conclusion
As we all face the unprecedented uncertainty and turmoil reigns in the USA, we still have things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. We can be grateful for almost anything. One thing we should be especially grateful for is the great American capacity to come back stronger than ever.
If you feel like sharing something you are grateful for this year message our staff and help us to Count our Blessings and Give Thanks! We will publish responses for all to see in order to help others to give thanks and be thankful.
Be safe and have a great Thanksgiving!
